Ayer fui a recoger mi nueva guitarra Montmartre de Gerónimo Mateos. Por supuesto, la guitarra es un sueño, pero la relación con estos maravillosos luthiers es, sin duda, lo mejor de todo.
Un experiencia que recordaré siempre

I cannot recommend Geronimo and Federico highly enough. I ordered their Segovia model as my first serious classical guitar in November last year after doing some internet research and coming across John Warren's article in Classical Guitar Magazine. I was a little reluctant to buy a hand made guitar without trying it first but the price was significantly cheaper than the price luthiers in the UK would charge for a similar instrument. Federico was in touch all the way and I looked forward to the day when my guitar did arrive. It duly did back in February but was destroyed by UPS delivery. Federico was really good as he knew how upset I was. He got started on making me a new one immediately and it arrived yesterday. I was really happily surprised to see he has given me the higher spec Aranjuez guitar instead of the Segovia which is their penultimate quality classical before their x braced auditorium model. Any regrets about not trying before buying faded as soon as I tuned up and played. It Is a solid spruce top, solid indian rosewood sides and Bouchet style 7 strut fan bracing with a natural oil finish. Even in new state the sound is powerful, complex and full with a lovely bell like quality to the trebles and a good substantial bass. The guitar is also set up perfectly as per my instructions (full sound but easy to play for an intermediate player) with Saverez High Tension strings and not too high an action, though I have the option of raising this in time as the neck has a truss rod. In short a glorious guitar and a committed, father and son team with old school attitude to craftmanship and customer service. I am already saving for a steel string Tennessee modeland look forward to meeting them personally soon at their Madrid workshop sometime soon.

Las mejores guitarras de manouche que se producen a nivel nacional. Compré mi guitarra jazz B aquí, Gerónimo y Fede son un encanto y el trato tanto durante la compra como en la post-venta fue de diez. Y merece la pena visitar su taller, 100% recomendable:)

Buenas, tengo la gran suerte de tener una guitarra Gerónimo Mateos del año 1997 (Giralda), pero dudo si es clásica o flamenca, pero estoy seguro que suena tremenda y que es mágica, no tendré otra igual.

Siempre la mejor atención, auténticos maestros luthier. No hay guitarra que no te la dejen sonando 10 veces mejor que cuando se la entregas. Y sus guitarras manouche son una maravilla!

This father-son duo makes fabulous guitars, I'm a very happy customer. When I visited Madrid they also graciously gave me a tour of their workshop. If you love master-built guitars definitely check them out!

Me ha encantado tanto el trato como la profesionalidad y calidad del trabajo. Llevé mi guitarra para que le hicieran unos arreglos y a pesar de la dificultad que conllevaba lo hicieron genial y la dejaron perfecta. Sin duda acudiré a ellos en futuras ocasiones.

I bought the model Segovia a few years ago and I have been very happy with it. Although I play only occasionally, it’s a pleasure to take the guitar from its case, to look at its simple embellishments (the way I like it) and to know it will feel comfortable in my hands and sound better and better as years go by.

I have a Monmartre D hole model, which looks fantastic and plays lovely, it is loud and bright, Frederico was very helpful with advice and help throughout, the process, he kept me updated of progress with photos, and the guitar was finished and delivered ahead of time. I am very pleased and would recommend the company and the guitars.

Je viens de recevoir une guitare: exceptionnelle! Autant l'aspect générale que les détails sont une merveille. La qualité au niveau du son ne manque pas à l'appel, les basses sont bien présentes et ne couvrent pas les aigus. La guitare est très bien équilibrée. Je recommande les yeux fermés!

Ho acquistato la "Jazz B" buca ovale da Atelier Manouche che ancora ringrazio per avermi fatto trovare la chitarra che cercavo! "Jazz B", chitarra manouche davvero ben fatta con ottimo sustain e ricca di armonici. La fabbricazione è del 2020 e il suono mi piace già molto: con il passare del tempo può solo migliorare!

I just received in Brazil (Santa Maria) a Model Sète Guitar made by Federico and Geronimo Mateos. It is an amazing Guitar with a strong sound identity and soul. I love my Django model manouche guitar! I wish I could have gone to Madrid to visit the workshop and meet the luthier, but Federico has been very good at keeping in touch by email, including sending pictures of the guitar at various stages of construction.
This is a genuine handmade guitar at an affordable price. Highly recommended.

At first, I was hesitant to purchase an instrument without having a chance to get my hands on it and play it. After 40 years of playing guitar, I am rather picky when it comes to my choices.

On my first visit to Spain and Portugal with my family, I was hoping to buy a classical guitar made in Spain. The sightseeing came first, and the day before my flight back home, I resolved to buy a guitar. There was a guitar shop selling classical guitar just 50 meters from my hotel, but I happened to read an article by the musician John Warren about his adventures of trying to buy an affordable guitar from the many luthiers in Madrid, ultimately buying a guitar from Geronimo Mateos.

So I called the number listed on Geronimo Mateos website, and Federico (Geronimo's son) answered. Although they typically build guitars only on order from a customer, they happened to have two guitars in stock, one "Escorial" and the other "Aranjuez" model. Federico, who speaks excellent English, invited me to visit the shop, which was quite a distance away from the hotel. The shop was a little hard to find, located very close to the airport, in an industrial complex, but Federico was there to greet me, a very affable young man, and soon I was playing the two guitars, which were really nice and quite loud (compared to my old guitar), with nice bass sound.

Although the Aranjuez model was priced a little higher than my budget, with a nice discount from Federico who also pointed out that I wouldn't have to pay Spanish tax on it, we settled on a price for this model. Apparently, I couldn't just pay for and walk out with the guitar - a "CITES" certificate was required, which meant we would have to go to the custom office at the airport. My wife wanted to do some last minute shopping in Madrid, so Federico was kind enough to agree to get the certificate and drop off the guitar to me at the airport the next day. On my way out, I was fortunate enough to meet his father, Geronimo, a kindly gentleman.

The next day, after I reached the airport, I called Federico, and he met me outside the departure terminal with my guitar! We shook hands and he wished me happiness playing my guitar and a safe journey. It's been only a week or so, but I am having fun playing my Mateos guitar. Overall, the experience of buying my guitar was fantastic. Truly very nice people and wonderful guitar.

My husband and I visited this father and son shop during our visit to Madrid. First, they make beautiful guitars that sound AHMAZING! Second, they are super personable folks to deal with; they will talk to you about what you're looking for in a guitar and make sure you are paired with the best instrument for you (in English, French or Spanish). If you are looking for a unique and personal experience when investing the money for a handmade guitar, this is seriously the place. Money well spent and a truly fantastic experience; a memory for sure!
Quick Tip: We took an Uber out to their shop and then took the Metro back.

Dopo un lungo periodo di valutazione ho deciso di acquistare una chitarra manouche Mateos, modello Jazz B. Uno strumento fantastico di altissima liuteria. Ho avuto il piacere di parlare con Federico che, oltre ad essere una persona eccezionale, mi ha tenuto costantemente aggiornato sul progresso della costruzione dello strumento. Servirebbe una sesta stella per recensire dei liutai come loro!

I would definitely recommend Mateos guitars. I bought the Escorial classical guitar model after visiting the workshop in Madrid - usually the guitars are made to order, but they happened to have an Escorial already built.

It was really interesting to visit the shop and see the magic that goes into making each guitar. Federico (who speaks excellent English) was very informative at explaining the production process, including the types of wood used, the bracing, and the different ways that the guitars are finished.

The Escorial classical guitar has a simple but elegant look to it. It has an amazingly deep, beautiful and resonate sound to it. As I learned, the traditional oil finish (as opposed to lacquer, which is much more common in guitars today) allows the full resonance of the wood to shine through when you play it. 10 months after purchasing the guitar, it still has a pleasant wood scent every time I pick it up.

Les contacté por unas dudas sobre el puente y la altura de las cuerdas de la guitarra manouche. No solo me respondieron rápidamente y cercanamente sino que he acabado con un puente de ébano a medida y además he aprendido bastante sobre el tema. El puente está perfecto y ahora la guitarra suena mejor y es más cómoda de tocar. Los puedo recomendar con total confianza.

Tras adquirir una guitarra Gerónimo Mateos, no tengo más que palabras de agradecimiento. Tanto por la construcción del instrumento, que no deja nada que desear; como por la atencion recibida durante todo el proceso de construcción, desde el primer momento en que me puse en contacto con Federico, se esmeró en ayudarme con todas mis dudas y propuestas.
Un 11/10. Muy recomendable.

Grandes profesionales, guitarras de calidad hechas a mano, con un sonido espectacular. Gran relación calidad-precio y un 10 en la atención al cliente. Atención en tres idiomas (español, inglés y francés). Es sin duda parada obligatoria si visitas Madrid.

Trato excelente, todas las facilidades del mundo y encima me han construido un guitarron. Así da gusto!

Calidad absoluta en todo lo que hacen Federico y Gerónimo, ya no solo en cuanto a la fabricación del instrumento, sino en el trato con el cliente, y en como nos involucra en el proceso.

Fuí a Madrid desde Málaga solo a probar, y me vine encantado, con una guitarra encargada y con la certeza de que la próxima que compre, será a ellos (¡creo que incluso sé el modelo!)

Que te hagan una guitarra a medida es una maravilla, pero si además te van informando de todo lo que va pasando semana a semana, si te reciben en su taller con una variedad increible de guitarras para probar y te tratan como si fueses compañero (algo que en realidad somos músicos y luthieres), es un autentico lujo.

Excelentes luthiers, padre e hijo, encargué una guitarra jazz manouche personalizada y el resultado estuvo sin duda a la altura de mis expectativas. Muy buena calidad de materiales, trabajo artesanal fino y cuidado, y trato muy cercano, incluso a la distancia. Ante mi imposibilidad de pasar por el taller, me enviaron emails cada semana desde el inicio para seguir todo el proceso con fotos, preguntándome mis preferencias antes de tomar cualquier decisión y ayudando a resolver mis múltiples dudas.
