The location: 2nd floor of an old house (middle of XIX century, AFAIK) in a row of similar coloured houses right on the beach (old town of La Vila Joyosa). The house is 2 meters away from a narrow one-way road and 15 meters away from the beach. The apartment is located between two one-way streets with the front balcony facing the sea. The seaview is fascinating.
The beach: perfect. Sandy. The sun loungers are available on the beach for 6 Euros per day (6 more Euros for a sunshade). But there are sun loungers and a tent in the apartment, so you can save several coins.
Equipment: there is everything you could need in terms of consumer electronics (a dishwasher, a washing machine (on a balcony), a fridge, a kettle, a stove with 2 burners etc. No oven, though (who needs it on vacation anyway?). Lots of dishes, cups, utensils etc. Towels and linen are provided. BUT, there is no AC.
The noise: as there is no AC, you have to keep the windows open, so all the sounds of the town will be there for you (cars and people passing by, music playing on holidays and some weekends, the hum of the close cafe, neighbours chatting, slapping doors and even arguing; one Friday evening (after 10 pm) someone started playing the drums somewhere very close to the bedroom of the apartment and played it till late at night, so an AC and plastic windows would be of much help).
The car: I decided not to rent a car this vacation and it turned to be right - the town isn't car-friendly (the streets are narrow and there is not a lot of places where you could park a car; there is an underground parking right near the beach, though, so there are options).
The shops: the supermarket Spar is 400 meters uphill from the apartment, the market (Mercado Central) is a bit closer on the same way (the Mercado works till 14 on working days and Saturday). It is possible to get uphill on escalators in the Central park right to the Chocolateria Valor, if you walk 200 meters along the beach to the left from the house.
Bottom line: a nice apartment with a magnificent seaview for those who are immune to the sounds of the town at night.
