If you rent your car through Solmar on their own website and pay for their own insurance, you will have no problems at all. Go for a Full/Full on petrol/diesel and just fill up at the last petrol station on the way back. Return takes 2 mins, all they need to do is check you've filled up. No damage checks as it's all covered by the insurance! And this insurance is not excessive if you buy from them when you book! We've done it this way for several years and it works everytime. If you try to go for buying some other insurance elsewhere, it won't be recognised by them so they will ask for a deposit on your credit card to insure themselves against losing the car. I know that doesn't sound good and I don't really understand why, but just buy theirs on booking. It's saved a heck of a lot of hassle. If you read Martin Lewis's guide on Money Saving Expert (look up Martin Lewis car Insurance spain on google). He even tells you about the deposit. They all do it, it's a well known thing.

Absolute sharks. As with others despite having our own insurance we're told we had to take theirs. After a lot of extremely shocking and rude customer service it was agreed we could take the car as long as we left a large deposit on our credit card which we had no problem doing. They then insisted our credit card (which they had accepted on a previous rental) was not a credit card. Santander confirmed it was a credit card (which it 100% is - Solmar refused to speak to Santander) they again refused to accept the card and then claimed it was not being accepted by 'the system'. The lady was only keying in the first few numbers on the card then claiming it was invalid, when challenged she said the system does not need the whole number! - absolute farce.

They pulled the same trick with a Danish couple who were collecting a car, so it's clearly well rehearsed. In the end despite having a booking we were left to make our own way back to the airport with our luggage and find another company, paying a lot more for not booking in advance. Absolutely appalling service and company. Avoid at all cost.

They also had signs stating that unless you took their insurance you would have to wait a minimum of 20 extra minutes when returning your car. Absolute farce.

Like the comments below we had booked through a car rental company and had already booked the insurance through them. On our confirmation email upon arrival we were to pay €121 and that was all. When we arrived we were told we needed to take out their insurance which was at an extra cost if we didn't want to do that then we had to give a credit card with €1500 deposit. They wouldn't accept my card as I wasn't the driver but my husband doesn't have a credit card. After disputing why we needed to pay extra HIDDEN costs the lady then told us We didn't have a car and they would tak us back to the airport. After a long early morning with 3 very young children, one had a temperature and felt sick and one being a restless 7 month old you can imagine how frustrating this was. We had enough luggage to carry around as if we were away for a month. After sitting waiting with a crying baby they finally gave us a car.
I have to say the customer service was awful, we dealt with LAURA who was very rude and showed no care for customers and rudeness the whole time we were there. I'd say we were there over an hour of our holiday time.
We always rent a car for our holidays and never have we ever had a bad experience like this. Stay clear!

Stress stress stress. Not that close to the airport so you need to get a bus.the bus takes 10 mins there and back so if you miss one your waiting at least 20 minutes. They also are very hard sell on the extra insurance. For me it was all fine, but next time I'd rather pay a bit more for hassle free.

Excellent service collected from airport promptly. Car was great and dropped off with no drama. We have been using them monthly for the last 3 years without any major problems. See you again next month.
